No idea if anyone makes their own card kits. I do. They travel well and I have a specific box I place things into and I can go with 1-3 dozen cards (depends on size) all ready to assemble.
Below is a photo of some left from a prior assembly - cleaning out my box (aka assemble what I didn't get to) and creating more.
Sizes - depends on what cards/envelopes I find on sale. Those are simplest to take.
Paper - most precut, but I take a 6x6 pad of basic colors.
Sentiment - most kits get two. That way whatever mood hits I can go with.
Extras I take - some inks (chalking type or the small squares), ribbons, and a packet of sequins already adhered to those tiny glue dots. Those are a new favorite - flat, easy to mail, easy to put on a layout and adds bling!
Some images are pre-colored, some are not. Depends on the trip and duration. If longer, I add a box of colored pencils. Takes up the same space as one pair of my tennis shoes and gives me a break during down time. Started these after trying to figure out what to take for extended periods away from home and flights were the method of travel. That is also a reason for the paper pumpkin kits. Color Coordination - I could grab the monthly supplies and slide into my colored pencil box and have some variation.

four card kits (sorry for glare) - 3 are standard A4 size, one is a 5x7. a few better shots - a mass of the kits You can likely tell, I pick a few patterns and use different papers to make bundles of cards. While I have stopped sending to family (over 200 cards per year - birthday and anniversary only) as a challenge, I do like to send out to people I know. Family still gets some, but it just got too big! I like sending, but couldn't keep up with the daily need for so many birthday and anniversary cards. Throw in sympathy (unfortunately I need those quite often) and general and boom! After two years - pretty overwhelmed. Kind of starting again, but much different pace - sending a few a week would be awesome to maintain.
